Adolfo Pérez Esquivel sends an open letter to Barack Obama, calling for help to stop “global dictator” Donald Trump

Adolfo Pérez Esquivel has called Donald Trump a “global dictator” and demands an end to his warmongering policies.  The Nobel Peace Prize laureate denounced to Barack Obama the siege against Cuba, the kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro, and the genocide in Palestine.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Pérez Esquivel published the open letter to former President Barack Obama denouncing the policies of Donald Trump.   In the letter, he called the current U.S. president a “global dictator” and “the number one terrorist.”

Pérez Esquivel warned that Washington is pushing the world toward the abyss of nuclear war, breaking with the basic principles of international law.

A critical point in the denunciation is the tightening of the blockade against Cuba. The Nobel laureate pointed out that Trump is trying to “economically strangle” the island by preventing the arrival of vital supplies such as oil.

He condemned the attempt to subdue the Cuban people through hunger and blackmail by force of arms. In this regard, he urged Obama to return to the path of dialogue he initiated to avoid further harm.

Regarding Venezuela, the intellectual denounced the military aggression perpetrated on January 3rd, calling it a direct invasion. He accused Trump of the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, who remain detained in the U.S. without legal guarantees.

In this regard, Pérez Esquivel demanded the immediate release of the Venezuelan leaders and reiterated that Latin America and the Caribbean must be respected as a “Zone of Peace.”

The letter also addresses the situation in the Middle East, holding Trump responsible for complicity in the genocide against the Palestinian people. The Nobel laureate criticized the impunity granted to Benjamin Netanyahu, despite accusations of war crimes by the International Criminal Court. He denounced this policy of force as systematically ignoring United Nations resolutions and enjoying the complicity of certain European powers.

Adolfo Pérez Esquivel also questioned the mass persecution of immigrants and the threats of hegemony over countries like Mexico, Brazil, Nicaragua, and Iran. He emphasized that peace is not simply the absence of conflict, but the direct result of social justice and respect for sovereignty.

He warned that the irresponsibility of the current US administration jeopardizes the stability of the entire hemisphere and global security.

Adolfo Pérez Esquivel urged Obama to use his influence to mobilize the U.S. Congress and reverse these totalitarian policies.

The Argentinian Nobel laureate said he is confident that a new “rebellion of conscience” will emerge within the American people, similar to the one that occurred during the Vietnam War. He concluded by calling for the construction of a social contract that prioritizes human dignity over the warmongering interests of the Washington elites.
