Havana, February 26 (RHC) – Cuba now knows its rivals and groups for the preliminary phase of the beach volleyball tournament of the Central American and Caribbean Games of Santo Domingo 2026, a competition that will feature the participation of 22 pairs distributed in four sections.
The official website of the Dominican Republic’s multi-sport event announces that the Cuban pairs will compete in Groups D and B, men’s (m) and women’s (f), respectively, with the competition beginning on July 25 and concluding on July 29.
In addition to the Cuban teams, the men’s teams from Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, Martinique, and El Salvador will also be competing, while the women’s teams will include the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad and Tobago.
As currently scheduled, the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, which are set to take place on July 30, and the semifinals and finals on July 31.
With the entire competition schedule finalized, only the official announcement regarding the two pairs (m and f) who will be in Santo Domingo is pending. As the WhatsApp group Cuba on the Road to Los Angeles 2028 correctly points out, following the withdrawal of the Cuban duo, Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, their replacements, Damián Gómez and Eblis Veranes, and Kailin Garrido and Maykelin Drik, must take their places.
They also note that in 2025, Gómez and Veranes won several medals on the regional circuit, participated in the World Championships held in Australia at the end of the year, and are scheduled to attend several stops on the North, Central American and Caribbean (NORCECA) circuit before the Games, as are Kailin and Maykelin.
