Cuban Boxers in Mexico for Central American Qualifier

Havana, March 11 (RHC) – A delegation of 14 Cuban boxers will participate in the qualifying tournament for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, which begins today in Mexico.

The group of seven boxers, one male and one female, traveled yesterday from Mexico City and will compete in Guadalajara, Mexico, until March 16, seeking to qualify for the regional tournament.

Before departing for Mexico, the national boxing commissioner, Robinson Poll, told the online newspaper Jit that the team is in excellent condition for this event, which will award a total of 126 spots across 14 weight divisions.

There will be 11 spots in the 51, 60, and 65 kg weight classes, nine in the 70 kg weight class, and seven in the 80, 90, and over 90 kg weight classes for the men; and 11 spots in the 51, 54, and 57 kg weight classes, nine in the 60 kg weight class, and seven in the 65, 70, and 75 kg weight classes for the women.

The men’s team will consist of Saidel Horta (60 kg), Erislandy Álvarez (65 kg), Julio César La Cruz (90 kg), Alejandro Claro (51 kg), Keylor García (80 kg), Yunier Zorsano (70 kg), and Fernando Arzola (over 90 kg).

Meanwhile, the women’s team seeking qualification will be Dayira Mesa (70 kg), Yoana Rodríguez (75 kg), Magda Massó (57 kg), Yailena Palomo (51 kg), Carisney García (54 kg), Melissa Millares (60 kg), and Erlis Cobas (65 kg).
