Cuban president speaks with media professionals on Cuban Press Day

by Ed Newman

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic—joined by Politburo member and Secretary of Organization, Roberto Morales Ojeda — held an exchange today with a delegation of professionals from national media outlets as part of the Cuban Press Commemoration Week.

The occasion provided a fitting opportunity to discuss how the sector transforms challenges into opportunities and continues to grow its audience by studying and adopting global trends. These trends enable the sector to be better positioned to continue defending the truth of the Cuban people within a context marked by a fierce media war.

In his remarks, the First Secretary encouraged the professionals to continue telling the life stories of the people — those who, day after day, seek solutions and find ways to overcome difficulties. He also urged them to uphold ethics and truth as their fundamental guiding principles.

“May the Cuban Press continue to rise to the standard of the Revolution and the people!” exclaimed Díaz-Canel.

March 14th marks the observance of Cuban Press Day, celebrated in tribute to the founding of the newspaper *Patria* by José Martí on that very date in 1892.
