Barcelona out of Champions League

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, April 15 (RHC) – Atletico Madrid lost 1-2 to Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, but their 2-0 first-leg victory secured their place in the semi-finals.

Lamine Yamal in the fourth minute and Ferran Torres (24) leveled the tie for Barcelona in less than half an hour, but Nigerian Ademola Lookman pulled one back in the 31st minute to give Atlético Madrid the advantage and a place in the next round at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium.

The visitors withstood Barcelona’s pressure and, although they lost at home, they held onto their first-leg advantage to advance to the Champions League penultimate stage for the first time in nine years. They now await the winner of the tie between Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon (1-0 for the Londoners in Lisbon).

Paris Saint-Germain, the defending champions, demonstrated their class and beat Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield, with a brace from Frenchman Ousmane Dembélé (72nd and 90+1 minutes).

The reigning champions advanced to the semifinals with a 4-0 aggregate score after their 2-0 victory in the first leg.
