Civil society in Cuba is calling for the popular movement “My Signature for the Homeland” starting this Sunday, April 19, in response to the imperialist threat, announced Yuniasky Crespo Baquero, head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), today.

During her address at the closing of the 5th International Colloquium “Patria,” the member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) stated that, with the signature of every inhabitant of this island, they will reaffirm the unwavering commitment to peace that is the essence of the Cuban nation, forged “with the deepest conviction that defending ourselves is not only a right, but, as enshrined in our Constitution, the greatest honor and the supreme duty of every Cuban.”

Crespo Baquero asserted that for a country blockaded, slandered, subjected to media attacks, and subjected to a permanent hybrid war, the “Patria” Colloquium reaffirms our commitment to defending our ideals, the importance of strengthening our political activism, and developing our own communication tools, as requested by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, she affirmed.

Just hours before commemorating the 65th anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón, this fifth Patria Colloquium, which began with a popular gathering at the central corner of 23rd and 12th Streets, where the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution was proclaimed, has also been a tribute to the architect of that epic victory, on its centenary, she recalled.

The leader called for the defense of truth, justice, and peace and emphasized that “every media outlet, every activist, every content creator of the global left should know that they are not alone: we are part of a front under construction, a front that knows no borders and whose center of operations is the new headquarters of Patria.”

This Sunday, April 19, Cubans will pay tribute to the memory of the combatants who fell in the epic of Girón, 65 years ago, defending socialism, an event that went down in history as the first defeat of imperialism in Latin America.
