The Committee of Solidarity with Cuba (CSC) in Puerto Rico has urged an absolute national and international repudiation by organizations and governments of Donald Trump’s new order against Cuba.
Milagros Rivera, president of the CSC, pointed out the audacity of the President of the United States in threatening a dangerous military aggression against Cuba on the same day, May 1, when millions of Cubans marched through the streets and plazas to commemorate International Workers’ Day.
On that day, the Cuban people delivered more than six million signatures for Peace and in Defense of the Revolution, collected over 12 days—from April 19 to 30—despite the fuel shortage caused by the oil embargo also imposed by the occupant of the White House in Washington.
“The Cuban people are steadfast and prepared to defend their political and social project, as well as their sovereignty and dignity; it is up to other governments to demand respect,” the Puerto Rican leader affirmed.
Milagros Rivera insisted that we know the fascist Trump administration wants to defeat Cuba and, to that end, criminalizes solidarity.
“It pains them that, since the imposition of the oil embargo on January 29, Cuba has sought changes in its electrical power system. It bothers them that the world supports Cuba not only with declarations but with concrete economic and material aid; it bothers them that people in solidarity travel to Cuba despite the threats.”
She noted that a solidarity event just concluded on May 2 with 766 delegates from 36 countries representing 152 social, political, and labor organizations, as well as peace organizations and groups dedicated to solidarity with Cuba and just causes.
“They approved a powerful Declaration in favor of Cuba, solidarity, and peace. They repudiated the criminal policies of the empire and pledged to fight in every corner of the planet.”
Milagros Rivera emphasized that Cuba has resisted with dignity for more than 65 years the aggressions and the criminal blockade, intensified with genocidal measures such as this year’s oil embargo, even though Trump knows that Cuba is not a threat to the empire, but rather a source of hope for the people, and that is what worries the imperialists, he stressed.
“Therefore, if they touch Cuba, they touch us all,” she said, urging decent movements, organizations, and governments to form a united front in defense of Cuba.
She also proposed that the Latin American and Caribbean Diaspora, as well as migrants from other continents who have been abused by the racist policies of the Trump dictatorship, must organize within the United States and say enough is enough.
“The American people must rein in their rulers.”
