At a press conference in the Adolfo Luque Hall of the Latin American Stadium, the results of the joint vote between the press, fans, and the National Commission were announced.
González, who has become an offensive force for the Cubs, tallied 14 hits in 30 at-bats, including two doubles, five home runs, and 18 RBIs—leading the league in both categories—while also drawing two walks and striking out only once.
In the voting, he edged out his teammate, the Cienfuegos reinforcement Luis Vicente Mateo, who had a brilliant week going 18-for-37 with two home runs, 11 RBIs, seven doubles, and a triple, and Matanzas native Hanyelo Videt, who dazzled with a .611 batting average after collecting 11 hits in 18 at-bats, including two triples and seven RBIs.
From the mound, Gutiérrez displayed absolute dominance, winning both of his starts with 10.1 scoreless innings, striking out three and walking five.
The Cazadores pitcher edged out Industriales’ reliever Yunier Batista, who recorded three saves in four appearances with a 4.05 ERA in 6.2 innings, and Yosmel Garcés, now with Las Tunas, who earned two wins with three runs allowed in 10.2 scoreless innings.
