President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlights Cuba’s experience in receiving aid

by Ed Newman

President Miguel Díaz-Canel has affirmed that Cuba has extensive and constructive experience in receiving international aid, including from the United States. “Any donor can attest to this reality,” the head of state added in a message on X.

“If the U.S. government is truly willing to provide aid in the amounts it has announced and in full compliance with universally recognized practices for humanitarian assistance, it will encounter no obstacles or ingratitude from Cuba.”

The president also considered Washington’s recent offer to “a people that the U.S. government itself systematically and ruthlessly punishes collectively” to be “inconsistent and paradoxical.”

The Cuban leader further noted that the aid could be used to improve the country’s situation regarding the availability of fuel, food, and medicine.

“Incidentally,” he emphasized, “the damage could be alleviated more easily and expeditiously by lifting or easing the blockade, since it is known that the humanitarian situation is coldly calculated and orchestrated.”

In the same message, the Cuban president affirmed that Cuba has a “rich and productive” history of working with the Catholic Church on humanitarian issues.
