Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez on Thursday thanked the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) for its courageous stance in defense of the island against threats of military aggression from the United States.
In a message posted on social media, the Foreign Minister highlighted that CARICOM denounced the “unjust and cruel blockade” imposed on the island and reaffirmed that Cuba does not represent a threat to any nation.
“We will continue to defend the Caribbean together as a Zone of Peace,” Rodríguez emphasized after the statement from the Caribbean bloc, which also condemned the energy embargo imposed by Washington.
The CARICOM statement, issued through the Council for Foreign and Community Relations, expressed “deep concern” about the tightening of Washington’s economic, trade, and financial measures against the island, which are exacerbating the humanitarian crisis facing the country.
The organization stated that the restrictions in place for more than six decades have had “a detrimental effect on the lives and livelihoods of the Cuban people.”
It also warned of the threat of a possible military aggression, which would cause “unnecessary human suffering” and destabilize the entire Caribbean region.
