Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated this Tuesday, June 9th, that her administration continues to send solidarity aid of all kinds to Cuba, “and we will continue sending it,” she affirmed. During her usual press conference, the president described the initiative as a historic act of solidarity from the Mexican people with the Caribbean nation, which is facing the intensified economic, commercial, financial, and energy blockade implemented by the United States government.
The president’s statement coincides with the recent arrival at the port of Havana, the island’s capital, of the commercial vessel Asian Katra, which carried a shipment of 1,700 tons of food and essential supplies from Mexico and Belize.
The organization and transport of this donation was the result of a joint effort between the governments of the aforementioned countries, with supplies being gathered thanks to the participation of solidarity groups, Cuban communities in both nations, and a public appeal issued by the Mexican newspaper La Jornada.
In response to the recent support from Mexico and Belize, Cuban President Miguel DÃaz-Canel expressed his gratitude on social media for what he described as a show of solidarity in such difficult times.
The tightening of sanctions by Washington—resulting from recent executive orders—directly affects electricity generation, hospital operations, water pumping, and food distribution. Adding to this situation are the threats of military aggression from the U.S. administration.
Faced with imperialist hostilities, solidarity groups around the world continue to support the Cuban government and people through various actions, who feel supported amidst constant U.S. pressure.
The authorities of the largest island of the Antilles maintain that the pressure against Cuba’s sovereignty will only generate greater unity and determination among a population that remains committed to defending its sovereignty.
