Morales Ojeda highlights clarity on Cuba of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

by Ed Newman

Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, highlighted this Tuesday on his Facebook profile the clarity of the statement made by Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, regarding the harmful effects of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.

Morales Ojeda emphasized: “Once again, the voice of reason rises from the United Nations to denounce the criminal blockade of the United States against Cuba,” referring to Türk’s remarks.

The High Commissioner called for the immediate lifting of sanctions and warned that their tightening, including fuel restrictions and extraterritorial measures implemented in 2026, is putting lives at risk.

Morales Ojeda cited Türk’s assessment of the deteriorating health indicators, the critical shortage of medicines and hospitals on the verge of collapse, as well as the impact on programs providing care to vulnerable patients.

The Cuban leader emphasized that energy restrictions have exacerbated blackouts and severely impacted food production, transportation, and economic activity, confirming the incompatibility of these measures with basic human rights principles.

“Faced with this scenario of profound social and economic deterioration, the High Commissioner described the measures as incompatible with basic human rights principles.”

Morales Ojeda echoed the High Commissioner’s conclusion: “These sanctions must be lifted immediately,” and reiterated that the position expressed by the United Nations is clear: No to blockades; Yes to humanity.
