Marcos Senisi Replaces the Injured Leonardo Balerdi in the Argentine National Team

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, June 11 (RHC) – Bournmouth Premier League centre-back Marcos Senesi will replace the injured Leonardo Balerdi in the Argentina national team for the 2026 World Cup, which kicked off today at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico.

After Balerdi’s right calf muscle injury was confirmed, coach Lionel Scaloni decided to replace him with Senesi, who recently became a free agent and signed with Tottenham Hotspur in England.

Scaloni had already ruled out the defensive midfielder last weekend; however, he opted to wait before announcing his replacement because he needed to monitor the progress of other injured players.

There is still concern within the Argentine national team regarding two other injured players who are currently recovering, particularly defender Nicolás Tagliafico, who suffered a grade 1 tear in his left calf muscle and will miss the team’s opening match against Algeria next Tuesday, June 16, in Kansas City.

Argentina is in Group J along with Algeria, Austria, and Jordan.
