President Miguel Díaz-Canel has highlighted the presence of a Cuban rescue team in the disaster zone in Venezuela, where two earthquakes left some 1,450 dead and more than 3,000 injured.

“The Cuban rescuers are already in the disaster zone, and our doctors, from the very first minute, have joined in caring for the injured. We continue to stand with all the Cubans there, their families, and our beloved Venezuela,” the president stated on social media.

This Monday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also affirmed that the arrival in Caracas of a group of rescuers to assist in the search for trapped people demonstrates solidarity with the people of that South American nation.

The medical brigade members were received yesterday by the Venezuelan Vice Minister for Latin America, Mauricio Rodríguez, and Ambassador Jorge Mayo Fernández.

In Venezuela, Cuban medical brigades have been working to care for those injured in Wednesday’s earthquakes since the first hours of the tragedy.
