Cuba is subjected to a blockade that is an act of war by the United States, declared the Caribbean nation’s ambassador, Otto Vaillant, at the 40th Congress of the French Communist Party (PCF), which concluded Sunday in Liles.
“We know that these are defining moments in a demonstration of the struggle for the progress of France,” commented the Cuban diplomat, addressing the PCF delegates, who have been meeting in the northern city since last Friday.
“I speak on behalf of a dignified people who suffer the consequences of a cruel and intensified economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government since 1962.”
“This is not a case of mere measures, but an act of war, as part of an unprecedented process of genocide against a country,” Vaillant denounced.
This is being done under the pretext that Cuba is a threat to U.S. national security, an absurd argument that Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno RodrÃguez called a deliberate lie aimed at- imposing a total blockade on our economy, he emphasized.
After six months without oil reaching Cuba due to the U.S. oil embargo, the goal is to create a humanitarian crisis to break the political will of the Cuban people, who will never submit to its dictates, the diplomat asserted.
We hope that the United States will not attack Cuba, and we want peace, but we have a people prepared to defend their country, “because we will protect our homeland at any cost.”
On the other hand, the blockade has been condemned for decades in the United Nations General Assembly, and the international community recognizes that Cuba is in no way a threat to international security. However, the blockade itself is.
Furthermore, the US blockade is an archaic, medieval, unilateral, and illegal policy, and in this international context, solidarity becomes essential, the Cuban ambassador stated.
That is why today I wish to acknowledge the solidarity of the French people with Cuba, the support of labor organizations like the CGT, and of course, the backing provided by the French Communist Party and its national secretary, Fabien Roussel.”
Cuba resists because, among other things, it is not alone, as it has people like you who are fighting for a world without imperialism and without blockades, the Cuban official emphasized at the PCF congress.
