Betancourt began her work at Radio Havana Cuba in 1979 as a journalism student and has maintained a constant connection with that international broadcaster ever since.

Her work included programs on Radio Rebelde, among them Chapeando Bajito, dedicated to defending the national information policy.

Since 2012, she has held positions within the Cuban Television News System, where she served as an advisor and scriptwriter for Canal Caribe and as a panelist on the Mesa Redonda program.

The Board of Directors of the Institute of Social Communication, which awarded the prize at the suggestion of the Cuban Radio System, following analysis by the National Commission, highlighted that Barbara Betancourt’s career exemplifies continuity in journalism, with more than four decades of uninterrupted work.
