Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberón, has strongly condemned as unfounded and unacceptable the statements made by the Israeli delegation to that organization against his country.
Exercising his right of reply before the UN General Assembly (UNGA), the Cuban representative stated that it is, at the very least, shameless for the Israeli representative to attempt to portray himself as a critic of Cuba.
Ernesto Soberón recalled that the government of Benjamin Netanyahu faces unprecedented condemnation from the international community for the genocide and the grave violations of International Law and International Humanitarian Law it is committing against the Palestinian people.
Instead of trying to lecture, the genocidal state of Israel should, first and foremost, answer for the devastation, suffering and death its actions have caused in Palestine and other Arab territories, Soberón pointed out.
He also noted that while the world watches in horror the systematic destruction of cities, hospitals, schools, and camps for displaced people, the Israeli delegation is reciting a script written in Washington to justify the economic strangulation of Cuba.
Soberón affirmed that his country will not accept the attempt to legitimize a policy of collective punishment against the Cuban people by those who justify the massacre of the Palestinian people.
On July 7, Cuba achieved a diplomatic victory at the UN General Assembly when 136 countries voted in favor of bringing the inhumane consequences of the US blockade to the Assembly for debate, despite Washington’s attempt to block the initiative.
After receiving Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez in Havana, who led the Cuban delegation, President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated on his social media profile that this victory demonstrated the majority support of the world for Cuba in its fight against the genocidal blockade of the United States government.
