Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced that the new measures by the United States government reinforce the aggression aimed at inflicting greater harm on the people of the island nation, who are already suffering the ravages of the intensified blockade.
«Another week, a new list of ‘sanctions’ against Cuba. This is the United States’ war and its desire to strangle our economy,» the First Secretary of the Communist Party wrote on his X account.
The Cuban leader also warned that the Caribbean island faces a genocidal plan denounced at the UN less than a week ago.
As part of its policy of harassment and economic strangulation against the Caribbean nation, the United States government extended its restrictive measures to 10 more Cuban entities on Monday, including the Ministry of Tourism.
Among the sanctioned entities are ENETEC, S.A., Coreydan S.A., and the Foreign Trade Business Group (GECOMEX), some of which are involved in the import, export, and sale of fuel, while others are involved in the international purchase and sale of goods and services.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also condemned the intensification of the United States’ war against the Cuban people, their living conditions, and their livelihoods, following the announcement of these new coercive measures.
The new measures are a clear demonstration of the criminal and genocidal intent with which US leaders are determined to punish the entire population of the country, the foreign minister emphasized.
The Trump administration is implementing this new set of sanctions with the aim of continuing to deprive the Caribbean nation of potential sources of financing amidst an unprecedented intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that has affected the Cuban people for more than six decades.
The sanctions package also reflects the extraterritoriality of the embargo imposed by Washington by increasing restrictions on foreign companies and entities that maintain commercial or financial ties with the organizations that appear on the unilateral US list.
Despite the US policy of maximum pressure, Cuba achieved a diplomatic victory at the United Nations on July 7, when 136 nations voted in favor of debating in the General Assembly the need to end the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by successive US administrations on the island nation.
