Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío denounced the attitude of the United States Secretary of State, whom he described as “shameless” for publicly celebrating economic coercion measures against the island.
Referring to the illegal measures, contrary to International Law, that Washington has been applying in its obstinate policy toward Cuba, Fernández de Cossío wrote in a Facebook post:
“As an individual and as a politician, one must have a very twisted spirit to publicly celebrate every time one takes action to provoke collective punishment.”
The Cuban diplomat noted that the U.S. official “is practically congratulating himself for promoting additional measures of economic coercion in the progressive genocidal plan against the Cuban people.” “Accelerating a humanitarian crisis is the stated goal.”
Carlos Fernández de Cossío added that Marco Rubio “boasts of taking action against Cuba that he knows could also lead to the deprivation of healthcare for hundreds of thousands of people in various countries, whose lives will suffer due to the vindictive motives of this politician and the anti-Cuban elite that financed his political career and placed him in his current position.”
These statements are part of Cuba’s official stance regarding the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade and the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the U.S. government, which directly affect the living conditions of the population and limit access to essential goods.
