Organizations and social movements from 25 countries condemned US imperialist policies toward the Global South on Thursday at the Félix Varela Convention Center of the University of Havana.
With the presence of the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and members of the highest leadership of the Cuban State and government, the IV Continental Assembly of ALBA Movements was inaugurated with 150 delegates from 25 countries.
Under the slogan “One Hundred Years Walking with Fidel,” discussions focused on global crises and regional sovereignty.
The National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, Gerardo Hernández, who delivered the opening remarks, highlighted the movement’s role in the struggle against the hegemonic policies of the major imperialist powers.
In an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina, María Fernanda Pereira, representative of the Argentine movement “Corriente de Nuestra Patria” (Our Homeland Current), emphasized the importance of Cuba for international leftist movements.
“We believe in the Cuban Revolution. Cuba is a true reflection of what we dream of and what we fight for,” she declared.
Later in the day, a panel discussion entitled “Main Features, Challenges, and Alternatives in the Face of the Imperialist Offensive on the Global South” was held, where the main current challenges were analyzed.
The Continental Articulation of Social and Popular Movements is a platform that brings together more than 400 organizations and 25 countries around a project of unity and integration for the Americas and other regions.
