Cuba, in its capacity as an Observer country, reaffirms its willingness to contribute to strengthening the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Cuban Ambassador to Russia Enrique Orta emphasized.
The diplomat, who spoke on behalf of Cuba at the expanded meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, held in the Kyrgyz city of Cholpon-Ata, also noted that his nation supports the organization in promoting its economic, trade, financial, and cooperation ties with its member countries.
In his remarks, reported by Prensa Latina news agency, Orta stated that Havana has closely monitored the results achieved by the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in recent years across all sectors, confirming the successful model of integration and economic and social development in the Eurasian region.
He emphasized that these advances are reflected in economic growth, technological development, and the strengthening of trade and logistics ties, within a context of significant transformations in global economic relations. He added that the Joint Action Plan for cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission and Cuba for the period 2026-2030, signed last May in Astana, Kazakhstan, constitutes a useful and crucial roadmap for developing cooperation in the areas identified as having the greatest potential.
Furthermore, he reiterated Cuba’s previously expressed commitment to deepening relations through the implementation of concrete, mutually beneficial economic projects, as well as fostering the participation of Eurasian investors and their financial institutions in the island’s economic and social development in strategic sectors.
He also noted the readiness to hold the Fifth Meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Cuban government, which would allow for practical and continuous monitoring of the progress being made on the issues at hand.
The Cuban representative added that the new provisions concerning foreign investment, part of the 176 economic reforms underway, represent a significant step in improving Cuba’s legal framework for attracting such investment.
The objectives are to foster and revitalize national production, generate income, and raise the well-being of the population in a highly complex scenario characterized by the multidimensional aggression of the United States, escalating to unprecedented levels with pressure and harassment against those who sovereignly wish to build relations with Cuba, and constant threats of military aggression. This constitutes a collective punishment of a peace-loving and supportive people, without any justification whatsoever.
It is imperative that the international community not only speak out against the economic strangulation of Cuba, but also act to uphold the sovereign right of all its members to maintain economic relations with our country and to counteract the extraterritorial effects of the measures that the United States illegally imposes upon it.
