Havana, Aug 21 (RHC) – Sweden’s Mondo Duplantis broke his own record of 6.21 meters in the pole vault at the Diamond League urban event.
In a duel with Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis, the multiple world medalist celebrated his victory after clearing the aforementioned height on his first attempt, before failing twice at 6.32 meters.
According to the Diamond League website, minutes after Duplantis set a competition record of 6.16 meters, Karalis followed suit with the same height.
At the Place de la Navigation, on the shores of Lake Geneva, the Greek achieved the highest outdoor jump, just one centimeter shy of his personal best, although he couldn’t clear 6.21 meters.
“I’m tired, that’s how I am! It was an incredible competition; I really had to give it my all,” Duplantis said after his success.
Thousands of people enjoyed the special spectacle featuring 10 of the 11 pole vaulters with personal bests over 6.00 meters, in the lead-up to the prestigious Athletissima Diamond League meet.
