In Burkina Faso, there is a Friendship and Solidarity Association with Cuba, made up of people who sympathize with and admire the Revolution, with the purpose of acting in defense of the political and social process underway on the Caribbean island and against the multidimensional war imposed by imperialism.
This was highlighted by Inoussa Dankambary, Secretary General of the organization. He explained that it was founded in the 1990s and its main focus has been demanding the lifting of the genocidal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States more than 60 years ago.
“We have carried out various actions, primarily the publication of statements and declarations against specific measures that increase coercive measures against Cuba. We support the Cuban embassy in its activities and promote events condemning all the injustices committed to overthrow the Revolution.”
She noted that the majority of professionals who graduated in Cuba are members of the organization. And Inoussa Dankambary added that this year they have published statements condemning all the criminal acts committed by the U.S. against Cuba and participated in various events in collaboration with the Cuban embassy, such as the July 26th celebration and the commemoration of the centennial of Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth.
“For this occasion, we held an event at the memorial dedicated to Thomas Sankara with various participants, embassies, representatives of the Burkina Faso government, friends from different associations, and supporters of Cuba.”
What are your next actions?
“In September, we will hold the Association’s general assembly, where we will also commemorate three important dates: August 4th, the 33rd anniversary of the proclamation of the revolution led by Captain Thomas Sankara; July 26th; and the centennial of Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth.”
Why the love for Cuba?
“I studied Civil Construction at the America Labadi Arce Polytechnic Institute on the Isle of Youth and graduated in 1992. I am a senior technician in the construction sector.
“I believe that Burkina Faso saw us born and Cuba saw us grow up. There, we received love and were shaped into who we are today. Cuba also gave us homes, food, education, a good education, healthcare, and taught us solidarity and humanism. All of this was given to us free of charge. We will always be grateful to Cuba, its people, and above all, to its leader, Fidel Castro Ruz.”
