by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, October 28 (RHC) – Cuban Luis Orta will compete in the 67kg Greco-Roman repechage after falling in the quarterfinals at the 2026 World Wrestling Championships.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion in the 60kg category won his first bout by technical superiority (9-0) against Algerian Fayssal Benfredj, followed by a 12-8 victory over Georgian Diego Chkhikvadze, before falling 4-6 to Azerbaijani Aytjan Khalmakhanov.
The 2023 world champion will now await the winner of the match between American Otto Elliot Black and Australian Tsuchika Shimoyamada; should he win that bout, he will face Armenian Slavik Galstyan for the bronze medal.
In the other two weight classes contested this Monday, no representative from Latin America or the Caribbean managed to advance to the medal rounds.
Furthermore, there will be no representatives from the region on the podiums for the 130kg, 72kg, and 97kg categories in this same discipline, where the respective titles will be awarded today.
