Lidia Arthur Brito, Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), arrived in Cuba this Friday on an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation in strategic areas between the international organization and the Caribbean nation.
During her stay, the distinguished UNESCO representative will meet with authorities from the Ministries of Education, Higher Education, Communications, and Science, Technology and Environment, and will exchange views with other high-level officials, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) reported on its website this Friday.
According to the publication, the visit comes at a significant time, following the commemoration on August 29 of the 79th anniversary of Cuba’s admission to UNESCO, an event that marked the beginning of a historic and uninterrupted relationship.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) noted that the Cuban National Commission for UNESCO was created that same year, institutionally consolidating a link that has endured and strengthened over the decades.
Cuba maintains an active cooperative relationship with UNESCO on projects aimed at strengthening national capacities and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
