Political and energy sector authorities have inspected the final stage of construction of the 50-megawatt Battery Energy Storage Station (BESS) in the municipality of Cueto.
Joel Queipo Ruiz, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguín, and Vicente de la O Levy, Minister of Energy and Mines, led the tour to evaluate the construction progress and technical protocols prior to the come national program to transform the country’s energy matrix, which includes the installation of 200 megawatts through four large storage complexes distributed throughout the country.
Designed to support the generation of photovoltaic solar parks, the modular system will capture surplus energy during periods of high solar radiation and transfer it to the electrical grid during peak demand times.
This infrastructure will strengthen the energy sovereignty of the eastern region by compensating for the intermittency of renewable sources, regulating frequency, and providing greater stability to the National Electrical System.
