Havana, September 15 (RHC) – The European Football Association (UEFA) announced today that Camp Nou, the stadium of Spanish club Barcelona, will be the venue for the Champions League final of the 2028-2029 season.
The meeting of the organization’s executive committee added that the final of the most important club football tournament will be held in Munich, Germany, a city that recently hosted it in 2025.
For Spain, this will be the second final in just two years to be held on its soil, as the 2027 Champions League final will be held at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.
Barcelona will once again host the final of the competition 30 years after the previous occasion, remembered for Manchester United’s comeback victory against Bayern Munich (2-1), with two goals in stoppage time.
The other final of this competition played at the Camp Nou was in 1989, with AC Milan’s resounding 4-0 victory over Steaua Bucharest.
In a statement, the president of the Catalan club, Joan Laporta, asserted that this selection “is international recognition” of the new stadium, which is still under construction but is already hosting matches.
With a planned capacity of 104,000 spectators, the brand-new Camp Nou will become one of the largest sports venues in the world.
UEFA also announced the Europa League host cities for that period: Bucharest (2028) and Belgrade (2029), the Conference League (Turin and Budapest, respectively), and the UEFA Super Cup (Amsterdam and Astana).
Meanwhile, Lyon (2028) and Cardiff (2029) were chosen to host the Women’s Champions League finals.
Furthermore, the meeting approved a change to the Nations League, which, starting with the 2028-2029 edition, will consist of three leagues or divisions, instead of the current four.
