Havana, September 15 (RHC) – Valencia secured a 1-0 victory today in their match of the sixth round of the Spanish first division (La Liga) against Alavés.
The first half of the match saw few scoring opportunities for either side, with Valencia dominating possession at 60 percent, while Alavés created more chances (2-0).
In the 78th minute, Javier Guerra threaded a pass into the Alavés penalty area, which his teammate Luis Rioja converted to beat the opposing goalkeeper and score the only goal of the game.
With this defeat, Quique Sánchez’s team, who were in second place in the Spanish league standings, drop to fourth with 10 points, while their rivals remain above the relegation zone.
In the seventh round of La Liga, scheduled to begin next Friday, Valencia will face Real Sociedad at the Mestalla stadium, while Alavés will visit San Mamés to play against Athletic Club de Bilbao.
