Havana, September 15 (RHC) – Cuban pitcher Liván Moinelo achieved his fifth victory today in the current season of the Japanese baseball league.
The Cuban left-hander allowed only two runs (one earned) and three hits in six innings, striking out four and walking one, in the SoftBank Hawks’ 5-3 victory over the Orix Buffaloes.
Moinelo boasts a 5-1 record with an excellent 0.88 ERA and is ready to lead the Hawks’ rotation in the postseason after missing a significant portion of the regular season due to injury.
Another standout Latino player on the day was Dominican Elehuris Montero, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in the Hiroshima Carp’s 9-4 win over the Yakult Swallows.
Meanwhile, his countryman Miguel Sanó went 1-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBIs in the Chunichi Dragons’ 4-1 victory over the Hanshin Tigers.
