Havana, September 17 (RHC) – The management of the Cocodrilos de Matanzas team, the current Cuban baseball champion, announced today the roster that will defend the colors of this province in the 65th National Series.
A group of 32 athletes, divided into three catchers, eight infielders, six outfielders, and fifteen pitchers, will attempt to repeat their domestic championship win, just as they did last year, according to the team’s management.
The main additions to the Matanzas roster include pitcher David Cardenal, who has experience in the Dominican Republic’s academies, and rookies Anthony Navarro and Yamian González, who are part of the Cuban national youth team.
The provincial commissioner for the sport, Héctor Rodríguez, noted that Yurisbel Gracial and Ariel Martínez are not on the roster due to commitments abroad that will keep them away for the entire Cuban tournament.
Armando Ferrer, manager of the Matanzas team, stated that the team’s main goal is to defend the title won in the last edition of the tournament, and to that end, they selected the players who best fit their planned game strategy.
“One always goes in with the mindset of achieving a good result for the province and for the fans who come to support us at the stadium, and although the field will have the final say, I have confidence in the guys,” he stated.
The Matanzas manager added that the team’s preparation, carried out at the University of Matanzas under the guidance of Professor Alexis García, is progressing according to plan, so expectations are high.
The Cocodrilos de Matanzas are in Group B of the baseball tournament in the largest Caribbean archipelago, along with the teams from Mayabeque, Cienfuegos, and Villa Clara.
