Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced the latest attack by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio against institutions and individuals in the Caribbean nation.
The foreign minister warned on his Twitter account that these new sanctions are part of Washington’s policy of maximum economic strangulation and collective punishment against the Cuban people.
“They will fail in their attempt to subdue us. We will never renounce our sovereignty and independence, won over almost 70 years of Revolution.”
The US Secretary of State announced sanctions this Thursday against 11 entities and individuals linked to the development of Cuba’s military capabilities and the exploitation of the island’s mineral resources.
The Ministry specified that it designated eight institutions and three individuals. The entities designated in the defense sector are the Simulator Research and Development Center, the Naval Research and Development Center, the Infantry Weapons Research and Development Center, and the “Grito de Baire” Research, Development, and Production Center.
In the nickel sector, a key industry for the Caribbean nation, the following were sanctioned: the Computer, Communications, and Electronics Technical Services Company; the Nickel Engineering and Projects Company; the Captain Alberto Fernández Montes de Oca Nickel Research Center; and Pinares S.A.
The sanctions are based on Executive Order 14404, signed by President Donald Trump on May 1, which expands the range of restrictions and pressure against the island in pursuit of the explicit objective of regime change in Cuba.
Despite these attempts at maximum pressure, the island is moving forward with the implementation of economic and social transformations that have the fundamental goal of raising the quality of life of the population amidst the intensified blockade and energy embargo
