Cuba reaffirmed this Wednesday, at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York under the Arria Formula format, that strict respect for International Law and the UN Charter is an unavoidable obligation for all States.
According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cubaminrex, Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the UN, recalled that the Charter establishes the duty to resolve disputes by peaceful means and to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any country.
The diplomat denounced the violations of International Humanitarian Law committed by Israel against the Palestinian people and demanded that the Council fulfill its responsibilities and guarantee the implementation of its decisions.
Soberón pointed out that it is essential to address the historical causes of conflicts and promote dialogue, solidarity, and international cooperation.
The Cuban ambassador to the UN also denounced the history of aggression, threats of the use of force, interference, and unilateral coercive measures by the United States, practices that violate International Law and undermine multilateralism.
Referring to Cuba, he warned that the US government has intensified its policy against the country through the extreme strengthening of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, a severe energy embargo, and secondary sanctions with extraterritorial impact.
He warned that public threats of direct military aggression against Cuba would have serious consequences for hemispheric and international peace and security, and therefore the Council should act in strict accordance with its mandate.
The Permanent Representative of Cuban to the United Nations reiterated that, despite the latent danger, Cuba remains committed to peace and dialogue based on international law, sovereign equality, and mutual respect.
Ernesto Soberón emphasized that lasting peace can only be built on the foundation of justice, through multilateralism and the peaceful settlement of disputes, in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
