Cuba thanks international support against blockade at the UN

by Ed Newman

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has expressed his gratitude for the international support voiced on Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly, demanding an end to the financial, economic, and commercial blockade against Cuba.

The top Cuban diplomat also expressed his gratitude via social media to the representatives of the member states who addressed the Assembly.

«We appreciate the condemnations of the serious humanitarian consequences imposed on the Cuban people by the measures of the U.S. government.»

Amid the unprecedented pressures exerted by the United States, the firm stance of nations in defense of peace, multilateralism, the United Nations, and international law is crucial.

«Cuba is not a threat; the blockade is.»

Bruno Rodríguez denounced before the UN General Assembly that the U.S. blockade against the island is silently killing and suffocating the population and constitutes a ruthless crime, for which the United Nations also bears responsibility.

In his speech on the need to end the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade of Cuba, he explained that this nearly 70-year-old policy has intensified in the last seven months, causing a decline in the quality of life and harming the population.
