Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced that Senator Rick Scott’s procedural motion prevented the passage of a resolution that would have restricted US military actions against the island.
Bruno Rodríguez called it «absurd» that the United States considers Cuba a threat, given its situation and the «brutal economic war» it faces.
The resolution, introduced by Democrats, required congressional approval for a possible military operation against Cuba, but was rejected with 51 votes against and 47 in favor.
This situation comes amid recent statements by Donald Trump about a possible intervention on the island and an executive order authorizing tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba, which Havana considers an attempt to «strangle the economy.»
