Cultural marathon in Mexico: Another show of solidarity with Cuba

by Ed Newman

The anti-fascist cultural marathon “All for Cuba” joins the diverse displays of solidarity with the Caribbean nation in Mexico, amid the tightening of the blockade imposed by the United States.

The initiative, organized by the Anti-Fascist Cultural League at the Monument to the Revolution in Havana, featured theater companies, poetry readings, and musical groups, including the renowned Aragón Orchestra from Cuba.

The event took place on Sunday and also included a collection center for items that will later be sent to the island.

For more than six decades, Washington has imposed an economic, commercial, and financial blockade on Cuba, which was tightened last January through an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump.

The lack of access to fuel resulting from this intensification affects critical sectors such as electricity generation, the operation of hospitals, food production and distribution, and water pumping in the Caribbean nation.

In response to this situation, initiatives in support of Cuba have emerged in Mexico, from the government, the legislature, local administrations, social movements and organizations, unions and political parties.
