Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister, denounced this Wednesday on his Facebook profile that the US magazine Politico continues to incite war against Cuba, proclaiming that “everything is ready and only Trump’s approval is needed.”
The deputy minister questioned: “Isn’t there a reason that justifies killing, maiming, causing destruction and misery, and running the certain risk of losing one’s own life?” referring to the threats of military aggression against the island.
In another message posted previously, Fernández de Cossío stated: “What is a government that executes a coldly calculated plan to induce a humanitarian crisis in an entire nation, if not criminal—a crisis that will cause and is causing harm to children, the elderly, women, the disabled, and all segments of the population, without exception?”
He added that “the U.S. government must answer for the crime it is committing against Cuba in full view of everyone.”
For his part, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, declared this Tuesday before the UN Security Council that “the oil and energy embargo that the United States imposes on Cuba is equivalent, in its effects, to a naval blockade, which is an act of war and genocide that subjects the Cuban population to conditions that threaten its integrity and existence and constitutes a cruel and indiscriminate collective punishment that is causing deaths today.”
The denunciations by both diplomats confirm the seriousness of the coercive measures applied against Cuba and warn of their immediate humanitarian consequences.
