Solidarity shown in Paris for Cuba’s will to resist

by Ed Newman

Support for Cuba was strong at a solidarity rally near the Federal Assembly, where the communist group in the French legislature was presenting a resolution in favor of the island.

Before dozens of attendees from various solidarity and collaboration organizations with the island, members of parliament, and union leaders, the Cuban ambassador to France, Otto Vaillant, expressed his gratitude for the sustained support and solidarity of those present.

The diplomat denounced the policy of strangulation applied by the administration of US President Donald Trump, aimed at destroying the Cuban Revolution, and highlighted the will to resist of the Cuban people.

At the same time, he denounced the fallacy propagated by the US government that Cuba is a supposed extraordinary threat to the United States.

“A small country like Cuba could never pose a threat to a nation as powerful as the United States.”

Washington, he asserted, will continue with threats and the application of the Monroe Doctrine and the Trump Doctrine because Cuba’s only threat is that of being an example of a sovereign country with the will to defend itself and exercise its self-determination.

“Cuba’s only threat is being, some 180 kilometers from the United States, a country with its own point of view. They may try to destroy our country with bombs, but they will never break our will to fight.”

Thanks to international solidarity, resources have arrived in Cuba to alleviate the energy emergency and the lack of equipment in our hospitals, he noted.

During the rally in support of Cuba, representatives of the European solidarity convoy, which has already made stops in Rome and Brussels, stated that they will take this message of solidarity with the island to other nations in the region.

Representatives of the Communist Party of France emphasized the importance of using the resolution presented to the National Assembly to mobilize the French political class to take an active stance in support of Cuba.

Our members of parliament, they asserted, must go beyond simply supporting a UN resolution on Cuba against the US embargo and move toward defending a stable economic relationship with the island in the face of the US’s inhumane and suffocating measures.
