Havana, September 13 (RHC) – Atlético de Madrid returned to winning ways in the Spanish first division (La Liga) today with a 3–0 rout of Real Sociedad.
The team managed by Argentine coach Diego Simeone secured a crucial victory for their La Liga title ambitions—challenging FC Barcelona and Real Madrid—during their visit to the Reale Arena in San Sebastián.
After a fairly balanced first half with few chances for either side, the scoreline at the Reale Arena remained level heading into the break.
Full-back Alejandro Grimaldo opened the scoring for the team from the Spanish capital in the 84th minute from the penalty spot, following a foul inside the box that the referee awarded.
Grimaldo switched roles in the closing stages of the match to assist his teammate Jhonatan David, making it 2-0 for *Los Colchoneros*, while Juliano Simeone sealed the victory in stoppage time (90+5).
With this result, the Rojiblancos reached 10 points and climbed to fourth place in the standings; they are level on points with Alavés but hold fourth place due to goal difference.
