Havana, April 24 (RHC) – As part of the close ties of friendship between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Cuba, an official ceremony was held this Friday for a donation of sports equipment, kindly made by the General Administration of Sports of that country.

The delivery, made at the Cerro Pelado High-Performance Athlete Training School (ESFAAR), was led by the president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), Osvaldo Vento Montiller; His Excellency Hua Xin, ambassador of the Asian nation to Cuba; and Coralia Márquez, director of the center.

“The sporting spirit is a symbol of comprehensive bilateral cooperation. I hope these supplies will help Cuban athletes train and contribute to better preparation for future competitions within the current Olympic cycle. We are confident that this cooperation will continue to grow bilaterally.”

For her part, Gisleydi Sosa, Director of International Relations at INDER (National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation), stated, “This gesture goes beyond the sports equipment and supplies we received today; it is a demonstration of solidarity and trust between two sister nations. This generous donation strengthens sports cooperation and reaffirms the bonds we have forged over more than 65 years of diplomatic relations.”

On behalf of the athletes, Stefani Sulay Cantau, from the junior rhythmic gymnastics team, expressed her gratitude for China’s gesture, which she considered not only material but also an injection of love and respect, a demonstration of international solidarity that comes at the most intense moment of their preparation for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.

The Chinese donation includes equipment, supplies, and uniforms for boxing, table tennis, kayaking, rowing, swimming, and gymnastics, among other sports, which are already at the various training centers of the national teams.

The occasion provided an opportunity for Fernando Arzola, one of the leading figures in Cuban boxing, to sign a boxing glove, presented by the head of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) to the Chinese diplomat as a symbol of the historic ties of brotherhood and cooperation between the two governments and peoples.

Also present at the event were other INDER officials, members of the board of directors of the Cerro Pelado High-Performance Sports School (ESFAAR Cerro Pelado), prominent athletes, sports legends, coaches, and staff.
