Colombian Commons Party denounces policy of suffocation against Cuba

by Ed Newman

The Colombian Commons Party denounced that Cuba is currently facing the greatest siege and strangulation plan in its history, making it urgent to condemn the unjust economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

In a statement, the party also referred to the constant threats of a possible invasion of the island and emphasized that it is the right of the world’s peoples to sell oil to Cuba without this having commercial or political consequences from Washington, referring to Donald Trump’s executive order that threatens to impose tariffs on anyone who trades hydrocarbons with the Caribbean nation.

The Colombian party stated that there is currently an attempt to use the most violent forms of warfare to dispute sovereignty, to the detriment of the self-determination of peoples.

“Only internationalist solidarity and the anti-imperialist struggle can stop this worldview, which under no circumstances can become common sense or the daily practice in our territories,” the statement affirmed.

Comunes’ position was released after its 24th Plenary Session, during which the group conducted an in-depth analysis of the international and national situation, as well as its internal political and organizational processes.

The occasion also served as an opportunity to send a message of solidarity with the peoples resisting the onslaught of the world’s reconfiguration by imperialist plunder imposed primarily by the United States and the illegitimate State of Israel, the statement emphasized.

The statement recalled that the year began with the US aggression against Venezuelan territory and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, who are facing a “clearly illegal” legal process.

This, the statement elaborated, adds to the erosion of international law and the inability of multilateral organizations to prevent televised acts of war against nations.

And the statement pointed out that this weakness had already been tested in recent years with the genocide against the Palestinian people, “who continue to resist one of the greatest humanitarian crises of our time.”

The Colombian political party also denounced the renewed attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran, “as a result of the United States’ desire for control over Middle Eastern oil and the need to destroy Persian civilization, which constitutes a fundamental point of resistance in the region against the expansionist project of Zionism.”
