Cuba Climbs in Triathlon with Solid Leadership from Alejandro Rodríguez

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, May 19 (RHC) – Cuban triathlon continues its upward trajectory in the world and continental rankings, driven by a weekend where Alejandro Rodríguez set the course for progress.

Rodríguez’s gold medal at the Ixtapa Americas Cup acted as a competitive spark, propelling him to 87th in the elite world rankings, after climbing 27 positions, and to 16th in the Americas, gaining five places and accumulating 1596.69 points.
Beyond the immediate brilliance, the numbers reveal great efficiency, as the Cuban has built his ranking with a reduced international schedule, maximizing every competition as if each one were decisive.
This performance places him today as the undisputed leader in Central America and the Caribbean heading into the Santo Domingo 2026 Games, with a lead of more than 70 points over Mexican Aram Michell Peñaflor Moysen, his closest pursuer.
The collective rise also saw another strong performance from Marcos Hernández, whose bronze medal in Guatemala propelled him 56 places to 296th in the world and 14 to 64th in the Americas, with 497.37 points.
In the women’s division, Isabel Rodríguez made a dramatic leap forward, climbing 228 places in the world rankings to 433rd, and also moving up 50 spots in the Americas to 103rd, with only two qualifying events under her belt.
The rest of the Cuban contingent shows varying levels of progress, with Alain Brian Fernández (379th in the world), Jorge Alemañy (496th), Leslie Amat (430th), and Claudia Gurri (480th) maintaining a presence on the rankings, reflecting a growing competitive base.
Thus, between strokes, pedal strokes, and strides, Cuban triathlon is forging a path of growth where every point counts for more than just a number, positioning Alejandro Rodríguez as a regional beacon on the road to the future.
