Cuba congratulates Algeria on the anniversary of the outbreak of its revolution

by Ed Newman

The Government of Cuba extended its congratulations to Algeria on Sunday, marking the 72nd anniversary of the outbreak of the revolution of November 1, 1954, in that African nation.    The struggle against French colonialism was a difficult battle that cost many thousands of lives, extinguished by a brutal French occupation.

“This occasion serves as an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to strengthening relations of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between our nations,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on its account on the social media platform X.

Algeria’s National Liberation Revolution gave a new dimension to the concept of national sovereignty and culminated a long struggle, during which the Algerian people demonstrated their deep attachment to their land, their history, and their deeply rooted identity.

The Caribbean island and Algeria established diplomatic relations on October 17, 1962. Notably, it was in this African nation that Cuba’s international medical cooperation program began—an initiative that subsequently expanded to dozens of countries across nearly every continent.
