Cuba criticizes U.S. Senate for not restricting Trump’s military actions against the island

by Ed Newman

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced that Senator Rick Scott’s procedural motion prevented the passage of a resolution that would have restricted US military actions against the island.

Bruno Rodríguez called it “absurd” that the United States considers Cuba a threat, given its situation and the “brutal economic war” it faces.

The resolution, introduced by Democrats, required congressional approval for a possible military operation against Cuba, but was rejected with 51 votes against and 47 in favor.

This situation comes amid recent statements by Donald Trump about a possible intervention on the island and an executive order authorizing tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba, which Havana considers an attempt to “strangle the economy.”
