Cuba Performs at the Caribbean Handball Cup in the Dominican Republic

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, May 4 (RHC) – The performance of the Cuban handball team in the qualifying tournament for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games yielded more than just a title: it confirmed, without a doubt, its status as a regional powerhouse.

The Cuban team not only won the 2026 Caribbean Cup, held in the Dominican capital, but did so undefeated and decisively, after overcoming formidable rivals such as Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.
The 31-23 score in the final against Mexico reflects a superiority that was maintained throughout the entire tournament.
But beyond the trophy, the true objective was clear from the start: to secure a spot in the Central American and Caribbean Games, which will take place in the Dominican Republic from July 24 to August 8.
And that goal was achieved without incident, allowing the team to focus on other key aspects such as team cohesion and improving their ranking.
The representatives of the largest of the Antilles finished undefeated, after dominating Group A with victories over Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala.
This double achievement—qualifying and dominating—places Cuba in a privileged position heading into the regional competition. She arrives not only with confidence, but with a team that demonstrates consistency and the ability to prevail even against the best in the region.
The women’s tournament will be held from May 25 to 30.
