Military aggression is not a demand of the people, but rather a narrative fabricated by centers of power to justify unjustifiable actions, emphasized Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez.
According to data from a Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs study on online social media conversations related to the island during May of this year, 90.1 percent of users expressed their opposition to the U.S. military threat against Cuba.
The results were presented by the Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and showed that only 9.9 percent of participants in the online debate support armed aggression against the Caribbean nation.
Rodríguez stated that “the propaganda of the United States government attempts to make a minority option seem inevitable: disguising aggression as ‘liberation,’ sanctions as ‘aid,’ and intervention as ‘transition.’”
The foreign minister reaffirmed that military intervention is not a demand of the people, but rather a narrative fabricated by centers of power to justify unjustifiable actions, contradicting the majority desire for peace and sovereignty.
The top Cuban diplomat pointed to the regional position of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, rejecting the notion that the territory should be treated as a backyard or a battleground.
Amid the constant and prolonged hostilities of the United States against Cuba, the threats of military intervention in Cuba are, according to the Cuban government, a latent danger.
US authorities have repeatedly expressed their intention to “take control of Cuba.” In response, the island’s leaders warn that a military intervention would provoke a “bloodbath” and incalculable consequences for the region.
Faced with these threats, statements of support for the island from the international community continue to multiply. Governments, parliamentary bodies, and social movements from various regions of the world have raised their voices to reject any possibility of a military escalation in the Caribbean and to demand respect for the principle of self-determination of peoples.
