Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has expressed his gratitude for the solidarity aid provided by the Spanish organization Open Arms, internationally recognized for its rescues of migrants in open waters.
“We thank the Open Arms organization for its ‘Rumbo a Cuba’/’Heading to Cuba’ campaign, which, along with more than 150 other organizations, facilitated the arrival in our country of material aid for the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital,” the Foreign Minister wrote on social media.
“This example of international solidarity demonstrates that Cuba is not alone in the face of the suffocation and the US blockade,” he added.
As part of the ‘Rumbo a Cuba’/’Heading to Cuba’ project, the aid arrived in the country on Sunday aboard the Astral sailboat, belonging to the aforementioned solidarity group, which seeks to overcome the barriers imposed by the US government’s economic, commercial, and financial embargo.
The delivery includes a kit of 22 solar panels, which will begin installation immediately in a process expected to take three weeks.
This energy will be used primarily for ventilation and, in the event of power outages lasting more than 10 hours, it can also recharge a dozen batteries, also donated by the activists, which will initially power the ventilators.
Along with the shipment, which also contains medical supplies and equipment, as well as school and scientific literature, Oscar Camps, director of Open Arms, delivered a folder of drawings and letters from Spanish children intended for the children currently being treated at the health facility.
