Cuba vs. Venezuela in the Women’s Hockey Semifinal in Santo Domingo

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, July 31 (RHC) – Cuba finished the group stage undefeated and will face Venezuela on Saturday in the semifinal of the women’s field hockey competition at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games.

The culmination of their performance that allowed them to lead Group B was sealed with a resounding 9-0 victory over Bermuda, with Sheila Darias, Yulitza Martínez, and Yuraima Vera each contributing two goals.

Yolaini Tamayo, Alexyane Ramírez, and Aglays Serrano completed the scoring, split evenly between the first, second, and fourth periods.

With this display of superiority, the Cuban team continued their winning streak, which had previously seen them defeat Jamaica 7-0 and Barbados 7-1.

A record of nine points and 23 goals for and only one against are key strengths for their match against a Venezuelan team that trailed Mexico 6-2 on Thursday, the latter having topped Group A.

This suggests that the stage is set for a rematch of the 2023 final in San Salvador, with the Cubans determined to dethrone the Mexicans.
