Cuban foreign minister highlights United Nations rejection of U.S. blockade

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez emphasized that no nation defended the criminal conduct of the United States at Wednesday’s UN Human Rights Council meeting.

“The international community raised its voice forcefully to demand that the United States government cease the blockade and energy embargo against the Cuban people,” Rodríguez wrote on his Twitter account.

The Cuban foreign minister highlighted that the delegations unanimously endorsed the opinion issued by Special Rapporteur Alena Douhan on Unilateral Coercive Measures and expressed their disagreement with the “relentless escalation of aggression against Cuba,” which seriously harms the country and Cuban families and violates their human rights.

Bruno Rodriguez explained in another message on X that among the 10 recommendations on Cuba made to the United States government by Douhan are lifting all coercive measures against the island, eliminating restrictions on the supply of essential goods, and ceasing the country’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Furthermore, the recommendations include repealing the national state of emergency declared due to the alleged threat Havana poses to Washington, ending fines levied on banks for ties to the island, removing all obstacles to sending remittances, and resolving differences with the Caribbean nation through dialogue rather than pressure.

“It is now up to the Council to monitor the United States’ compliance with these actions,” Bruno Rodríguez concluded.

The Human Rights Council on Wednesday denounced six decades of economic genocide against Cuba, which it considered the longest-running policy of unilateral coercive measures in the history of US relations.
