Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stated on Wednesday that deportations from the United States to third countries are part of a policy of hatred, discrimination and xenophobia driven by a nation built by migrants.
Via his X account, the island’s foreign minister denounced Washington’s double standards regarding human rights.
Bruno Rodríguez referred to an alert issued by independent experts from the UN Human Rights Council, who warned that the expulsion of 23,000 people to third countries is triggering a cascade of fundamental rights violations.
According to the specialists, this “migration externalization” scheme — which already affects more than 35 countries and territories — exposes asylum seekers to torture, persecution, and serious abuses by sending them to destinations lacking reception infrastructure or adequate protection systems.
They also questioned the lack of transparency surrounding these agreements, which operate outside public oversight and independent monitoring.
The experts expressed particular concern for vulnerable groups, such as children, women, people with disabilities, trafficking victims, the LGBTIQ+ community, and human rights defenders.
Given the impact of these measures, they urged the involved states to suspend such agreements, guarantee fair and transparent asylum processes, and establish effective accountability mechanisms.
