Cuban journalists condemn Israel’s genocide in Gaza

The Union of Cuban Journalists in Camagüey condemns Zionist crimes against Palestinian colleagues and rejects US interference in Venezuela, on International Journalists’ Day.

The Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) in Camagüey issued a statement during a meeting at the Press House, strongly condemning the murder of more than 250 journalists in Gaza by Israeli forces, calling it an attempt to silence the truth about the Palestinian genocide.

The statement also rejected US interference in Venezuela, emphasizing that it constitutes a violation of sovereignty and a threat to the regional peace declared by the Community of Latin American States (CELAC).

In the context of International Journalists’ Day, tribute was paid to Julius Fučík, author of “Reportage at the Foot of the Gallows,” a symbol of resistance and professional ethics.  His legacy was evoked as an example of commitment to truth and human dignity in the midst of oppression, following the spirit of Fučík, who wrote his work under Nazi torture.

The day included the integration of new members to the UPEC, who pledged to defend the principles of solidarity and journalistic truth.  The anti-imperialist thinking of Fidel Castro was highlighted, whose fight against fascism and support for Palestine remain relevant in the current context.

The declaration demands international justice for crimes against journalists and civilians and calls on the global community to mobilize against the impunity of Israel and its allies. The Camagüey UPEC reaffirmed its unconditional support for the Palestinian cause and the Bolivarian Revolution, rejecting hegemonic media narratives.

This meeting reaffirms the role of Cuban journalism in defending sovereignty and human rights, heir to a tradition of resistance and internationalism.
